I decided to start a newsletter — why?

Might it be madness?

Maybe it’s boredom?

Why a newsletter?

Why not?

If you read any of the side-hustle stuff out there, you will know about the power of the email list and how lots of side-hustlers view newsletters as the marketing and money-making tool. Are they? Really?

OK, I will admit that my email inbox is full of newsletters, and while I open some 80% of them, I can count on one hand the ones I regularly read from start to finish.

The longest’ relationship’ I have had with a newsletter is with one that started in 1990, and I first subscribed in 1995. The newsletter comes out once a week and has done so (except for US public holidays) pretty much every week. They are currently on issue number 1571 — and that is a lot of issues! The newsletter? TidBITS — and it is all about Apple Computers.

So, why am I starting one? Why am I adding to the noise? Well, as I said above, why not? It gives me something to do and will be a bit of fun. However, I was unsure how to go about the mechanics of publishing a newsletter, and then I came across Substack.

Why is Substack?
