Nick’s Stories
Well, it is a kind of test — a kind of prep for my future.
A bit about myself
At the time of writing (March 2021), I am about three years off retirement. I will be retiring earlier, but not as early as I had hoped or wanted.
For the past 30+ years, I have worked as a scientist and a university teacher. I have also been a geek — that is, I am into computing and computers.
Why now?
Well, I always planned to retire early but couldn’t afford it.
I have done the math(s) and can just about afford to go in a few years, but things will be financially tight, so I need some ‘side-hustles’ to help support my retirement and make life just a little more comfortable.
A deciding factor in making me seriously think about retiring is COVID-19. COVID-19 has had a significant impact across the world, and like many people, it got me thinking about my future.
Why these posts?
Well, I have been blogging since before there were blogs — so time for another one.
I have been unsuccessfully trying to set up side-hustles for the past 20 years, and while I had a good run in the early 2000s — nothing has stuck, and all have faded away.
So, in these posts, I will attempt to record my journey from fully employed to fully retired, with a period of semi-retired as I try to get some ‘side hustles off the ground.
